The saying goes that “less is more” – and after a month filled with long book titles, this week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt of books with single-word titles is a welcome change.
I noticed two major naming trends while putting together my list: first were books named after a primary character or institution within the story; second were thematically significant words. In this case I personally prefer thematic titles that add to your appreciation and understanding of a book after reading!
Featured in the header, and chosen because it pulls triple duty as the protagonist’s surname, a thematically important word for the story, and a thematically appropriate word for this post: Less, Andrew Sean Greer.

Misery, Stephen King
Wit, Margaret Edson
Ceremony, Leslie Marmon Silko

Sadie, Courtney Summers
Rebecca, Daphne du Maurier
Circe, Madeline Miller

Deathless, Catherynne M. Valente
Soundless, Richelle Mead
Warcross, Marie Lu
What single-word titles are on your bookshelves?
Rebecca has been on several lists this week. I think that’s pretty cool.
My TTT .
I’m not surprised, it was one of the first books that came to mind when I saw the prompt! It left quite an impression on me. 🙂
Deathless sounds so cool. My TTT
Deathless was amazing, I’d definitely recommend it! 🙂
I need to read Valente soon! 🙂

Deathless was my first Valente but won’t be my last – I’ve heard a lot of praise for her other books as well!
